The Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility on June 10 announced that its member, KFC, has exceeded a PLN 1 million total donation threshold. The foundation, which feeds more than 2,500 kids in Poland’s economically depressed Zachodniopomorskie province, uses corporate donations to finance its “hot meal a day” programme.
“I did not even realise that it has been that much already, but it has been an honour to help,” said former KFC brand president for Poland Drew O’Malley in accepting a huge thank-you cake from FCSR president Bill Chasey. He also promised to continue supporting the foundation in his new role as president of Starbuck’s Coffee in Poland.
Though the donation came in KFC’s name, it actually came from the restaurant chain’s operator, American Restaurants Sp. z o.o., which also owns rights to the Pizza Hut and Starbucks brands in the region.
The award came as a surprise during the FCSR’s CEO cocktail party at the Warsaw Marriott hotel, attended by some 50 heads of some of Poland’s most important companies. During the reception the foundation also welcomed three new members, including Poland’s largest brewing company, Grupa Żywiec.
